About Online Counseling

Why Choose Online Counselling?

There are many reasons someone might choose online counselling. For some, it’s a temporary option; for others, it’s a long-term preference that fits their life best. Online sessions can offer accessibility, comfort, and flexibility—no matter the reason behind the choice.

Here are just a few situations where online therapy can be especially helpful:

  • You live in a rural area with limited local counselling options

  • You’d like to work with a specific therapist who isn’t located nearby

  • Your schedule, health, or transportation needs make in-person sessions difficult

  • You feel more comfortable talking from your own space

  • You simply prefer the ease and flow of meeting online

Whatever your reason, online counselling is a valid and valuable way to access support.

What to know:

What Platform Do I Use?

I offer online therapy sessions through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform called Simple Practice. It’s designed specifically for mental health care, so everything is set up to make the process as smooth and confidential as possible.

Secure and Simple Billing

Simple Practice also manages scheduling and billing, which means less to keep track of on your end. You’ll be able to complete intake forms, securely store payment information, and access your upcoming appointments all from your personal client portal.

Easy Scheduling & Reminders

When you book a session, you’ll receive automated email reminders with your video link, as well as any forms or documents you might need—all in one placee. You can also reschedule or cancel through your client portal anytime.

Comfort and Flexibility

Whether you’re at home, in a private office, or anywhere else you feel safe, online counselling offers flexibility without compromising the quality of connection and care. Many people find that it’s just as effective as in-person sessions—and sometimes even more convenient and accessible.

What Online Sessions Are Like

During our sessions, we’ll be able to see and hear each other clearly, just like in a face-to-face meeting. You can join from your computer, tablet, or phone—whatever feels most comfortable and accessible for you.

Protecting Your Privacy

Confidentiality is just as important in online counselling as it is in person. I use a sound machine outside my private office to protect your privacy on my end. On your side, it’s best to choose a space where you feel safe and comfortable talking—ideally somewhere private, without other people in the room. Headphones can help too. Together, we’ll create a space that feels secure and supportive.

Is Online Counseling right for me?

At times, your counsellor may recommend face-to-face sessions instead of online counselling.

In-Person Counseling might be best if:

  • Accessing certain specialized trauma therapies (ie, EMDR or OEI)

  • You're in acute distress and need in-person care to ensure your safety and well-being

  • You find digital communication challenging or uncomfortable

It’s important to share how online counselling feels for you throughout the process. Together, we can find the format that offers the right kind of care for your needs.
